Meat

The Roost proudly raises all of it’s products in the most traditional, sustainable and ethical way possible. Our animals are raised free range, antibiotic and hormone free. They are predominantly grass-fed and receive a grain ration to compliment their diet.

Currently, we source beef from a neighbouring farm that shares in our farming philosophy and technique. As we continue to build the infrastructure of our farm we’ll be able to safely raise larger animals on our land. Until then, we are happy to partner with Stone Fence Farm in Dalrymple to provide pasture raised beef options for our customers.

Select cuts of freezer meat (pork, beef, goat) and whole/half chickens are available year round.

Fresh holiday turkeys available (limited quantities). Order early to avoid disappointment.

Interested in fresh meat OR quarter/sides/whole pork/beef/lamb/goat. Contact the farmer for details.

Having a pig roast? We’ll raise your pig (requires 10 weeks notice for a 100 pound pig).

Produce

All of our vegetables are grown with organic seed, are treated only with natural and organic fertilizers and are 100% free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers. While we are not a certified organic farm, we believe wholeheartedly in traditional organic growing philosophies and work to integrate best practices in soil regeneration and crop diversity.

Fresh produce is available seasonally from June to October at our farm market stand and in our pre-ordered Bounty Boxes.

Available produce changes from year to year and season to season but one thing you can count on is colour, flavour and options. Most commonly our gardens are growing: lettuces, chard, kale, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers, hot peppers, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, radish, beans, peas, beets, carrots, onions, okra, eggplant, potatoes, asparagus, garlic, rhubarb, basil, parsley, cilantro, oregano, chervil, rosemary, thyme, mint, raspberries, blackberries, plums, apples, gourds and pumpkins.

The Sweet Stuff

Maple Syrup

Long before The Roost was The Roost, the Stewart family has been making sweet, delicious maple syrup on the farm. We’ve scaled up operations over the past two years to include gravity lines and a larger evaporator, but we still have a bush full of pails and boil in open-air, wood-fueled evaporators. Our syrup is pure sweet goodness with that mild smokey flavour of traditional maple syrup.

Syrup can be purchased on the farm by appointment or by chance, and walking tours are available upon request. Contact the farmer for a tour.

Prices

1 LITRE – $25.00

500 ML – $13.00

100 ML – $7.00

For bulk orders of syrup, contact the farmer.

Honey

We love the natural sugars around here! The Roost honey is a fragrant, caramelly blend of organic wildflowers that bees follow from our pasture into the heart of the Carden Alvar.

The O’Stewarts have been playing with bees for five years now and started selling their liquid gold in 2017. It was an instant hit and has already sold out. Stay tuned for our 2018 harvest which will be available in July.
